This past week has been challenging. No more grace period for us. Time to get down to business. Unfortunately, by Thursday of this week both boys were sick. It started with mild digestive trouble, which we've all been having since we got here, but then Griffin got worse and eventually developed a fever accompanied by severe stomach cramps and a loss of appetite. He didn't eat for two days and his fever continued. Shonna, the wife of the acting director, relayed Griffin's symptoms to a doctor over the phone and he called in a prescription to a local pharmacy. Three days later he is eating again and the fever is gone. Mason went through the same cramping and intestinal trouble but never developed the fever. We are so thankful to see them up and playing again and appreciate all the prayers offered on their behalf.
I have been teaching on my own this week and it has gone very well. I instituted several new programs, all of which the students accepted without much trouble. We are doing a great art class from a book titled Discovering Great Artists by Mary Ann Kohl. It is, hands-down, my favorite art resource. We also started learning to type using Typing Instructor for Kids. I have really been surprised by how much the kids love this program. They are even doing it in their free time! The last thing I added was a study of astronomy. I'm planning an over-night field trip to an air strip to study the night sky. Hope we don't have too much trouble with the mosquitos!
Dan has started working on trying to get reliable internet for the office compound. Yesterday he was on a ladder working on a wire strung through two trees over a road. Very primitive, but if anyone can get it done, he can.
Today we are expecting new roommates - an older couple from Canada. He is a carpenter and she works in finance. They come every year for a few months. Can't wait to meet them. Everyone here speaks very highly of them.
