This is my third attempt to inform everyone that we made it! With our sketchy internet connection it's been difficult for me to stay online long enough to post an update. At any rate, we are here and have been here for about 10 days. We are finally adjusting to the time difference. No more staying up all night and going to be at 3 pm. There are a few other things that are taking a little longer to adjust to. There are lots of ants here. Lots. We shower with them, eat with them, drink them, they're even crawling on my laptop as I type. We also have to make most of our food from scratch, which is new to me, but something that I look forward to learning. So far I've successfully made homemade pancakes and syrup and ruined 2 batches of baking powder biscuits. Don't worry. I'm not giving up. I have lots of hungry mouths to feed!
The country is a land of stark contrasts - natural beauty and extreme poverty. Gorgeous mountains rise just behind our house and in front, people walk barefoot down the dirt road selling fruit to survive. The people are friendly and we are doing our best to learn to communicate. This week, I started teaching on my own and Dan started his IT work. The adventure has begun.
