History Trippin'

Adventrue In March of 2008 our family of four (plus 1 dog) hit the road for a yearlong tour of the United States, focusing on American History.  Come with us! Through this website we’ll pass along how we homeschool on the road and specifically what we’re learning about  American history. In our newsletter we'll provide lesson plans and activity suggestions so that you can learn along with us!  Continue...
Making Memories into Quilts PDF Print E-mail

From the time my boys were born until they were about 4 years old I saved the outfits that they outgrew that were my  favorites.  About a year ago I took all of those baby clothes with me to my mother's house and she helped me turn them into a hand stitched quilt.  It is one of my favorite possessions.  There is a square of material from the outfit my firstborn son wore to the hospital to meet his baby brother.  There is the piece from the sleeper I bought in Paris when I was pregnant.  A piece from each of the boys' favorite blankets, which they graciously let me have (because they still sleep with them).  On and on, each square holds a special memory for me and the quilt always makes me smile.

That's why we've decided to make a Trip Quilt for each of the boys.  Instead of buying them souvenirs that will either get lost or break or lose their appeal, we're buying the boys a t-shirt from each of  the major places we visit.  Since we can't store them all in the motorhome I'll be shipping them to my mother from time to time.  We plan to visit her early next year, where she will do with them what she did with me...help them cut the fronts off of each shirt and then help them sew each square together into a quilt that will last a lifetime.  It's the best souvenir we could possibly give them.

Thanks Sharon! I hope you and Dave are doing well and enjoyed your time at Mom and Dad's. We had such a great time with you the last time you came through. I'm working on a way to get more pictures of the motorhome on the site like you asked. There are a lot of people looking for a used diesel pusher with bunk beds and this one is so easy to modify. It's a great choice and it's been working out really well.
Catch you in Indy.

Jenny this is precious. Your mom told me about the quilt during or recent visit. We had such a great time with your mom and dad.

David and I are so excited for you and the family and this wonderful opportunity God has provided for you to venture into.

We are heading back North on April the third. We will miss the opportunity to see all of you when we stay over in Memphis.

Say hi to Dan and the boys. Take care and may God be with you on your travels. Hope to see you in Indianapolis.

Love,
Sharon
