Houston or Bust - Trial Run Part Deux PDF Print

Houston was the destination for practice run number 2.  Thankfully, it went better than our first trial run.  This time the craziest thing we dealt with was the awning trying to open as we were traveling down I-10!  But, we handled it.  Actually, Daddy handled it.  I kind-of freaked out.

This was the first time we attempted to tow a vehicle.  Neither of our cars are easily towable and since we had access to a dolly, we thought we'd give it a try.  Why not?  With our track record, what could possibly go wrong?  We found the dolly fairly easy to use, but it does come with its own set of challenges.  You CANNOT back up (don't ask how we know this).  And it took quite a while to load the van.  Picture this: me pulling forward - no back – now up - a little right – just back down and start over…about 4 times.  Then Daddy had to fit the straps over the wheels and crawl under the dolly to secure the safety chains.  It dawned on me the next morning, as it was pouring down rain, that loading the van onto the dolly in bad weather might actually qualify for "Dirty Jobs".  I can just see my sweet husband crawling around in the mud trying to secure safety chains in the rain.  Maybe we should consider selling one of our cars and getting something easy to tow.
