The first Tuesday of every month our homeschool support
group meets to share insights, frustrations, and encouragement. It was at one of those meetings that I first
heard this idea for determining God’s will for your life when faced with major
decisions. We found this advice profound,
and used this process to determine whether or not to go on this trip. I have been amazed at the results. If you too are facing major life decisions,
try this…
The process is simple – when you pray, ask for “3 Green Lights”
to help you know when and where to move ahead.
They are:
-
Circumstances: Do you have the time? Do you have the money? Are there any hindrances beyond your control? If it is God’s will for you to do something
then He will help you. Doors will start
opening.
- Scripture: God does not ask us to do anything that is
against His Word. This is an important
step to confirm our decision and to ward off doubts when the enemy tries to
create uncertainty. Ask God to give you
a scripture to stand on when doubts arise.
Hold this as a reminder that you
were not insane when you decided to have another baby, move far away from
family, or go back to school (or live in an RV for a year)!
-
A Spirit of Peace: Jesus promised to give us His peace and the
Holy Spirit to recognize it. You should
feel at peace with your decision, and if you are married you should BOTH feel
at peace. And, no, the peace cannot come
from Valium. God is not the author of
chaos. He would never ask you to live
that way.
Ultimately, you must have all 3 green lights to move
forward. Remember, sometimes the answer to
our prayer is “wait” and sometimes it’s “no”.
No matter what it is, we can be sure that it is for our good and going
through this process can help us know that we’re right where we need to be.
We are confident that we are supposed to be on the road in
2008! You can have the same confidence
about any major life decision that you’re facing. Just ask for 3 Green Lights!
