Today was a driving day.
We were supposed to do about 350 miles, but we didn’t make it. God intervened, and I think it may have saved
our lives. Over the past several hundred
miles we’ve noticed that the RV has developed a bit of a jiggle when we
drive. An irritating little wobble. It comes and goes. Dan wondered if we should have the alignment
checked, but we hadn’t gotten around to it yet.
Today when we stopped for gas he decided to check the tires. They all looked OK, except the front right. The front right tire was bald on the inside
and the outside, but the center looked new.
On the edges the threads were showing.
Not good. Particularly bad when
the tires only have 10,000 miles on them.
We weren’t expecting that. We
still had over a hundred miles to go to get to our campground for the night,
but Dan’s gut told him we weren’t safe.
We pulled out of the gas lane and stopped to consider what to do next. We found ourselves facing a Kenwood Semi
Repair shop directly across the street.
How fortunate. We drove over and
asked if they had time to take a look at our tire. Every one of their bays was full, but they
moved a truck out of the way to look at our rig. Dan’s gut (aka the Holy Spirit) was
right. They told us the tire was ready
to blow – very dangerous, and that we shouldn’t drive any further on it. They didn’t have a replacement tire, because
the tires made for semi trucks and the tires made for RVs are different, but
they called around and found a place nearby that miraculously had what we
needed and could mount it for us. Apparently,
someone else had ordered 2 tires like ours and had them on hold, waiting for 2
more. They sold us one of them and
ordered him another one. Also, in
typical God fashion, there was a KOA campground 1 mile down the road with an
opening for the night. It even had a
pool.
God’s grace was so evident today…we stopped for gas when we
had ½ a tank. We didn’t have to stop,
but He led us to the right place at the right time. It was the first time Dan had thought to
check the tires, and had we gone further it would surely have blown. Although one reason we chose a Monaco coach
was because of its great safety features , a blow-out on a front tire in a rig
of this size is always dangerous. Who
knows what could have happened. We
stopped around 4:00 (God’s perfect timing) so the semi repair shop was
still open and the people there were kind enough to help us (Thank you Scott). The little town we stopped in had everything
we needed – a new tire that you normally have to order and a campground nearby where we could stay until the tire
was mounted, oh - and the angels that were there, watching over us. It is such a blessing to experience the
results of the prayers of other believers.
Psalm 91:9-11 If you make the Most High your dwelling - even the Lord, who is my refuge - then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
