Louisville Slugger Factory and Museum PDF Print

Less than a week after visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame we made our way to Louisville, KY to see the Louisville Slugger Factory and Museum .  This is the place that every bat for the major leagues is made, and we got to see it done.  On the day we were there they were making bats for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Every major leaguer gets to choose which type of bat they want – what type of wood, the number of grains, and the color.  The bat is made to the players’ specifications every season, then the team name and the players name are burned into the weakest part of the bat.  If the player has signed a contract, their signature goes on the bat.  If they don’t have a contract their name is in capital letters.  So, the Louisville Slugger Museum has a collection of iron signatures for every major league player that they use for branding bats.  That collection is priceless.  We all enjoyed the tour and the boys had a great time in the batting cages.   Now our little leaguers have seen the Baseball Hall of Fame and Doubleday Field and the Louisville Slugger Museum.  To make our experience complete we need to take in a major league baseball game.  Hmmm…where should we do that?
