How do you get your Mail?

mail.jpg One of the first questions I get when people find out how we live is, "How do you get your mail?" There are actually several options, including:  Earth Class Mail which is an online service, Escapees or Good Sam Mail Forwarding Services which give a personal touch to your mail handling needs, Mail Boxes Etc. or the UPS Store, who just forward everything, and lastly, a close friend or relative who is willing to sort it and send it to you.  The cost involved varies, but you will generally pay either monthly or annually for the service plus the cost of forwarding your mail to you wherever you are, usually via FedEx or UPS.  You'll be surprised at the variety of services provided, and the cost.  Take a look...

Earth Class Mail:
With Earth Class MailTM online postal mail, you can stay connected to your postal mail just as you do your voice mail and email today: you can check postal mail from anywhere, manage it, and respond to it.

Here's how it works. First, you pick a "remote address" for one of our locations, and have selected mail sent to that address. As a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency, we then receive your mail, instantly scan all the sealed envelope images, and then electronically deliver each envelope image to you online.

You view your envelopes in a secure online mailbox and tell us what you want to do with your mail.

  • Recycle all the junk with a click of your mouse
  • Have us securely scan the contents so you can read it online
  • Shred sensitive information
  • Forward the original to you or someone else
  • Forward the electronic document to whomever you choose
  • Archive the originals at our facility

Escapees (TX address):
The Escapees Mail Forwarding Service is a licensed commercial mail-receiving agent designed for RVers and managed by experienced full-time RVers. Unlike many mail services, you can set your own schedule and make mail handling choices. Also, you are not limited to first-class mail. We accept and forward packages as well as certified and registered mail. We can ship your mail to you via USPS or FedEx.

We provide more personalized attention than most forwarding services. You have the option of receiving a postcard if you do not have mail on your requested dates so you won't be waiting for a delivery that isn't coming. We even give you the option of having us open your mail and read a special letter to you over the phone.

Good Sam (FL address):
Good Sam Mail Service is the most trusted and dependable mail forwarding service in the industry.  We receive your mail and forward it to any destination you request, domestic or international.  For many years "mail forwarding" has been a popular Good Sam member benefit.  Because we are based in Florida, many members choose to establish residency through us and avoid costly state income taxes.

Mail Boxes Etc. or the UPS Store:
Discover the benefits of mailbox services at The UPS Store or Mail Boxes Etc.:

  • A real street address, not a P.O. Box
  • Secure, 24-hour access*
Pick up your mail when it's convenient for you. Your mail and packages stay-safe and confidential.
  • Package notification
We'll let you know when your packages arrive.
  • Full-service mail and package receiving
We accept packages from all carriers, so you'll never miss a delivery.
  • Mail holding and forwarding**
We'll hold your packages in a secure location for pick-up at your convenience or forward them to you, wherever you are.

Since you'll be paying for every piece of mail that is forwarded to you, you'll want to cut out as much of it as possible.  Do as much as you can on-line - manage your accounts, pay your bills, etc.  Stop all junk mail.  Stop unwanted catalogs and magazines.

Before you have mail forwarded you need to decide where to send it. One option is General Delivery. To find out which post offices accept General Delivery go to the USPS web site, (under the Find a ZIP code) tab enter "General Delivery" in the Address line and the town and state you want. Or check the zip code directory (available at any post office) to find the correct post office; smaller towns will only have one, but if there is more than one post office, only ONE will accept General Delivery.  Questions can be answered on the USPS site under FAQ, then type General Delivery.

The second, and easiest way to get your mail, is to have it sent to the campground where you're staying.  Just let the office know that you're expecting mail.  We've even gotten large packages without any trouble.  Make sure you allow enough time for the mail to arrive before you leave!  It's that simple.
