Meet some other Families on the Road 9 Months, 2 Weeks ago
** This thread discusses the Content article: Meet some other Families on the Road **

Many people are shocked at our choice to leave everything behind and hit the road, but you'd be surprised at the number of people who already live this way fulltime. Incredible families from a variety of backgrounds - some who've set out to accomplish specific goals and some who are just living the life they love. There is a family of traveling performers who've been on the road since 1992, a family who's setting out to break a world record traveling on bicycles with their 9 year old twins, and a family touring Europe in an RV. Check out some of these websites to read more about other families on the road.

Were about to join yaull. We have been homeschooling since 1992 when I took my oldest out of 2nd grade. Hes 20 now and doesnt even live at home anymore.

Our 10 and 6 year old boys are going with us as is our new addition due this September.

We are in the process of cleaning and selling our home. We are then going to buy a fifth wheel bunkhouse and hit the road.

I doubt we will leave before the baby is at least 6 months old but as soon as possible after that!

We have been scouring the internet and reading and learning as much as we can.

My husband is stuck in Texas until June of 09 because he is in the Tx Guard.

Im book marking this site. Hope to hear of all your adventures!!

Stacy

Stacy,
So glad you'll be joining us! If you have any specific questions that I can answer, please ask. It's a lot of work getting ready to hit the road!

Hey there! I'm Nancy from the Family on Bikes listed above - I can attest to the hassles of getting ready to take off! Right now we are in the middle of packing up our house and putting everything in storage. Once we get that done we have to get the house fixed up, painted, and recarpeted so we can rent it out. This phase of the journey is NO FUN!!!

I'm on Spring Break right now, so we've been packing like crazy all week. I've een blogging about it here: www.familyonbikes.org/blog

Hey Nancy! You are WOMAN! I am amazed at what your family is about to undertake. I remember the packing...there were a few things that I found difficult to pack that I didn't expect. I like to do a lot of hands-on projects for school and had a closet full of stuff to draw from. Of course we have no room for that. It's all in storage now. I hated putting it away. And all of the sentimental stuff...I was afraid something might happen to it, but truly something could happen to it even under my own roof while I was there. So it's in storage too.
Good luck with getting the house rented and have a safe journey!

It's hard to maintain that perspective that something could happen to stuff even in our own home. There's that illusion of security - we somehow feel that NOTHING can happen to our house! As I'm putting stuff in storage now, I keep thinking, "Where can we put this to make sure it is safe?"

I envy you guys in having all this behind you at this point. We've got a lot of stuff packed away, but still have quite a mess to clean up!
