There are so many wonderful things to do and see for free in DC!

Don't miss the National Zoo. Check the calendar of events at www.fonz.org

The National Geographic has a great museum and it usually isn't as crowded as the Mall.

The National Museum of Health and Medicine is very cool:

The International Spy Museum in DC is supposed to be really cool.

And, if you're REALLY lucky, you might get to see the Cherry Blossoms!

The Cherry Blossom Parade is slated for April 12th.

If it's nice out, head out to the Maryland side of Great Falls. Check out the C & O canal, and if you are up for a good hike, try the Billy Goat Trail. My favorite!!

Any museum on the mall is great. The Air and Space will particularly popular with young boys.

Can't wait to hear of your journeys there!

My husband and I were recently in Alexandria,VA, just outside of Washington,DC. We visited Mt.Vernon, George Washingtons home and burial site on the Potomac River. What a great learning experience dating back to 1674. There is RV parking available. We recently purchased an RV and hope to travel as well. We will be keeping an eye on your site.

an absolute MUST GO TO on your list in the DC area is

Generous George's Positive Pizza and Pasta Place
3006 Duke St
Alexandria, VA 22314
(703) 370-4303 www.generousgeorge.com

We first ate there in fall of 1983 and ate there practically monthly for the 10 years we lived in Alexandria. We eat there almost every time we are in Alexandria. The pizza is still the BEST in the entire country (in our opinion... smiles).

have a great trip!

You guys are SO LUCKY! I read the article about you in the Commercial Appeal and shared it with my daughter, Amy. She's getting to go to Washington in May and I just am so jealous! It is a WONDERFUL city to visit! I spent a week there a couple of years ago and we just did so much - you have to plan ahead with your congressman to visit the White House but we did that as well as the Capitol. We saw the Holocaust Museum, Arlington, Changing of the Guards, all of the monuments at the Mall, the American History Smithsonian, Union Station, and I could write a book! Your family is so blessed to be able to do this! I look forward to keeping up with your adventures!

Sandra,
We contacted Senator Corker's office before we left and they were very helpful. They set up tours of the White House and the Capitol for us and also something called Tennessee Tuesday. Ever heard of it? They arrange for you to have breakfast with your Senators. I thought it would be cool for the kids to actually meet them. We're hoping to do and see most of the other things you mentioned. It all depends on how much stamina the kids have. Should be a lot of fun!
