Making Memories into Quilts 9 Months, 4 Weeks ago
** This thread discusses the Content article: Making Memories into Quilts **

From the time my boys were born until they were about 4 years old I saved the outfits that they outgrew that were my favorites. About a year ago I took all of those baby clothes with me to my mother's house and she helped me turn them into a hand stitched quilt. It is one of my favorite possessions. There is a square of material from the outfit my firstborn son wore to the hospital to meet his baby brother. There is the piece from the sleeper I bought in Paris when I was pregnant. A piece from each of the boys' favorite blankets, which they graciously let me have (because they still sleep with them). On and on, each square holds a special memory for me and the quilt always makes me smile.

That's why we've decided to make a Trip Quilt for each of the boys. Instead of buying them souvenirs that will either get lost or break or lose their appeal, we're buying the boys a t-shirt from each of the major places we visit. Since we can't store them all in the motorhome I'll be shipping them to my mother from time to time. We plan to visit her early next year, where she will do with them what she did with me...help them cut the fronts off of each shirt and then help them sew each square together into a quilt that will last a lifetime. It's the best souvenir we could possibly give them.
