We LOVE southern CA! Obviously, there's Disneyland and Disney's CA adventures. It's lots of fun, but pricey. On the lower dollar scale, we've been to the Le Brea tarpits north of LA. It was very cool, but you have to wade through evolutionary stuff. The boys really liked it. Legoland in between LA and San Diego was a blast. It cost a little bit, but my lego loving boys had a great time. There's fun rides and lots of lego stuff all around.
Go to the beach. We've been to Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Huntington Beach, Dana Point, and some others I can't remember. The boys liked Huntington Beach best. The Santa Monica pier was fun and interesting. There's an aquarium on the pier that's free or maybe there's a little fee for donations, but it's neat even though it's small. In Redondo Beach, there's a neat boardwalk and pier area that has a fun waterplay area for kids. Can't remember the name of it, but I could find out from Michael's aunt and uncle (who live in Redondo Beach, if you guys wanted to go there.)
Eat fish tacos. They're better in Southern CA than anywhere. Michael's favorite place is called Wahoo's. There's some place (I can't remember if it's Wahoo's) that does $.99 fish tacos on Tuesday nights. It was some common fast food taco place.
Michael and I once went hiking in a place called Devil's punchbowl which is on Hwy 14 near Palmdale and Lancaster. We did this BK (before kids) so I don't know what the hike would be like kid-wise.
You could drive into Hollywood, especially if the boys want to see the Hollywood sign. I vividly remember being disappointed with driving through Hollywood. Pretty un-impressive in my opinion.
If you're going to be there over a Sunday, you might want to try Saddleback church. We've been there several times. It's a pretty amazing church. The boys still speak of it very fondly.
Michael's aunt and uncle (who we're closer to than Michael's own dad) live in Redondo Beach/Torrance area. If you need anything at all when you're there, just call and we'll call Tony and Virginia.
Man, I'm jealous! I wanna be in CA!
