My family and I travel in an RV that we purchased last year. It has been wonderful!!! My husbands job takes him all over the USA and God is giving us the opportunity to go with him. This past year we have been to Washington, California, Texas, Kansas (yes, it is very flat),Georgia and currently South Carolina.
I would encourage you to check out the local universities in your areas. These tend to have free museums, planatariums, historical sites and other neat things.
Our 2 children love to travel. How many can name different states with capitals and find them on a map???

Love the idea about local universities. We did some of that back home. Don't know why it didn't cross my mind. That's really great - being able to travel with Daddy instead of missing him. Hope you're enjoying your time together.
