** This thread discusses the Content article: New York City **

Our stay in the Big Apple was a short one. Camping choices were limited to pricey or far away. We opted to shorten our visit (for the sake of the budget) and stay at Liberty Harbor in New Jersey, right on the water. It was an expensive parking
lot, but it had a great view. We could look out our front windows and see
the Statue of Liberty! Plus, we had a short commute to NYC. Us old folks don't mind a lengthy commute, but the kids don't handle it as well. Once they're done, they're done, at that makes a long commute torturous.

Overall we
found the city very expensive and there were only a few things that we felt
like the kids really had to see. We read about
the history of how New York was founded and saw a monument to Dutch sailors at
Battery Park. Aside from that, this trip
was mostly about seeing things that are unique to New York. We took the cruise to Liberty Island and saw
the Statue of Liberty up close. We went
to ground zero and talked about what happened at the World Trade Center. We also went to see the Body Exhibition,
although we had a few reservations. One
child liked it and the other was completely grossed out. From room to room he just sat in the corner and waited for it to be over. Lastly, we wanted to see a Broadway show, and
after scanning what was available ended up with tickets to Stomp.
If you asked the boys, that was definitely the highlight of the trip. They LOVED it! And that was all we did. We figured that it was better to leave on a good note than to
over-do it.

While we were there Daddy celebrated his birthday. In honor of the Big Apple we made him caramel
apples to go with his birthday cake! Unfortunately, the caramel
hardened to the point that we couldn’t chew it and we ended up throwing them
away. Oh well, it’s the thought that
counts.
